The blind children’s soccer team of Cundinamarca was born 20 years ago thanks to my father, who is also blind. I want to coach these children because I want to help them, the same way a coach once helped my father when he was a child.

The training process helps develop their mobility and basic skills, but most of all, this team is a family.

Bakit Isaac Agogo

Watoto Sports Academy | Gulu, Uganda

I started coaching back in 2005, working with children orphaned by war, HIV and AIDS. I work to change their future by also holding character sessions where I teach the children about education, health, discipline and general knowledge.

I strongly believe that football can harmonise the children, and I can see their happiness, hope and unity.

I was a footballer myself and always saw the same kids coming to watch me train. They would walk from the next village, and I realised they just wanted the chance to play.

I decided not to extend my contract with my club and instead to build a team and become their coach. It’s worth it to see the joy on their faces, knowing they have someone to help guide their dreams.

Feisal Abdi Hassan

Maroon Starlets F.C. | Nairobi, Kenya

I was a professional footballer until I suffered a bad knee injury where I was sidelined for 7 months. By the time I returned, my team had fallen into financial problems.

Instead, I began to coach the local boys and girls, taking them away from the crime-infested streets and onto the football pitch. Winning this session will mean big things, because football is what I love most.

I coach a girls’ team in my village, and I would love to increase my level of coaching for them. Most of the children are orphans with no schooling, food or parents, so I decided to make a small academy to bring them together and help improve their lives. Now we are so fortunate to get a small fund for food, housing and education to help alongside our passion for football.

Beldine Lilian Achieng Odemba

As a coach of 5 teams, my greatest satisfaction is watching the improvement in my players both on and off the pitch. Not only can I develop them professionally but also help them positively impact their lives and teach them important life skills.

If I win, the knowledge I learn would mean so much to us and our community. Football in Kariobangi would never be the same again!

In my country, it’s very difficult for women to become football coaches. But when you love what you do, anything is possible.

What I love most about being a coach is seeing the children improve every day and applying tactical, technical and ethical concepts to both the field and their life. Winning would be an extraordinary experience because football is always reinventing itself and you never stop learning.
